Melbourne, Australia: Andhra Pradesh Minister for Education, IT, and Electronics, Nara Lokesh, met with senior executives of Cricket Victoria at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Friday. During the meeting, both sides discussed collaboration opportunities to promote cricketing talent between Andhra Pradesh and Victoria.
Lokesh highlighted that the Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) has been conducting the Andhra Premier League (APL) to identify and groom local cricketing talent. The main goal, he said, is to help Andhra players reach IPL-level standards. He proudly mentioned that several APL players — including Shaik Rasheed, Thripurna Vijay, Nitish Reddy, Satyanarayana Raju, and Paila Avinash — were selected for the IPL 2025 Mega Auction, along with other APL players who joined various IPL teams in the past.
Lokesh urged Cricket Victoria to explore possibilities of joint training camps and friendly matches between Andhra Pradesh and Victoria to help players sharpen their skills. He also encouraged both sides to promote eco-friendly cricket facilities, expand women’s cricket initiatives, and enhance fan engagement through digital platforms, live streaming, and social media.
Responding positively, Cricket Victoria representatives said they are keen to collaborate with India in developing cricket education programs, including diplomas and degrees in cricket studies. They revealed plans to set up a cricket academy in India and reaffirmed their commitment to support women’s cricket development.
They shared that Cricket Victoria manages both the Victoria Bushrangers (men’s team) and Victoria Spirit (women’s team), which compete in top-tier domestic tournaments such as the Sheffield Shield, Marsh One-Day Cup, WNCL, and WBBL. They added that Victoria continues to invest in cricket infrastructure and grassroots programs, supporting junior, school, and community clubs across the state to nurture young talent.
