Cognizant has kicked off a major expansion in Visakhapatnam with the groundbreaking of a massive 20,000-seater technology campus and the opening of an interim techfin centre. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Minister Nara Lokesh led the ceremony, calling it a significant milestone in the state’s journey toward becoming a global technology hub.
The new campus will be developed in three phases on a 22-acre site with an investment of ₹1,600 crore. Construction for the first phase begins in 2026 and will be completed by early 2029, providing space for 3,000 associates. Once all phases are complete by 2033, the fully developed campus will accommodate 20,000 employees, making it one of Cognizant’s largest facilities in India.
Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu said welcoming Cognizant to Visakhapatnam marks a key step in accelerating Andhra Pradesh’s digital transformation. He noted that the project will generate high-quality jobs, strengthen digital capacity, and contribute to building a strong innovation ecosystem across the state.
Minister Nara Lokesh described Cognizant’s expansion as a turning point for Visakhapatnam’s rapid rise as a technology and financial hub. He said the new centre will open significant opportunities for local youth and reinforce the city’s role in driving technology-led economic growth.
Cognizant CEO Ravi Kumar S said the groundbreaking and launch of the interim techfin centre reflect the company’s confidence in Visakhapatnam’s talent and future potential. The interim centre will support advanced work in artificial intelligence, machine learning, digital engineering, and cloud services. It includes collaborative spaces, a dedicated client experience zone, and seating for over 1,000 associates.
This expansion adds to Cognizant’s recent investments in India, including new centres in Bhubaneswar, Indore, and GIFT City. With more than 70 percent of its 349,800 global workforce based in India, the company remains deeply connected to the country’s innovation and delivery ecosystem.
The Visakhapatnam project strengthens Cognizant’s already extensive presence across major cities such as Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune, Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi-NCR, Kochi, Coimbatore, and others, positioning Vizag as a key pillar of its long-term India strategy.
