Andhra Pradesh Education and IT Minister Nara Lokesh met Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in New Delhi and discussed a series of reforms and proposals aimed at improving education standards across the state. During the meeting, Lokesh briefed the Union Minister on the key initiatives being implemented by the coalition government to enhance learning outcomes, especially in government schools.
The state government has launched a Guaranteed Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) programme to ensure that primary school students achieve essential reading and arithmetic skills at an early age. To improve classroom engagement and learning assessment, Andhra Pradesh has also introduced a clicker-based interactive classroom response system in government schools. Lokesh highlighted innovative efforts such as the “Andhra Pradesh School Assembly,” a mock legislative session conducted on Constitution Day to familiarise students with constitutional rights and responsibilities. He also informed that a simplified version of the Indian Constitution for children has been published and distributed.
As part of efforts to improve nutrition and school infrastructure, Lokesh said Andhra Pradesh has launched the country’s first centrally managed smart kitchen operated by government schools, with the first facility inaugurated in Kadapa. The Union Education Minister appreciated these initiatives and commended the state government for its focus on improving education quality.
Lokesh urged the Centre to extend further support by approving 11 proposed Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas in the state and expediting the establishment and operationalisation of 12 recently sanctioned Kendriya Vidyalayas. He also requested financial assistance of ₹4,400 crore under the STARS project as part of Samagra Shiksha reforms and sought approval for an additional ₹1,270 crore for the 2025–26 financial year.
The Andhra Pradesh minister further appealed for permission to set up 155 smart kitchens across the state on a pilot basis under the PM POSHAN scheme. He also invited Dharmendra Pradhan to inaugurate a model Autism Support Centre developed with central assistance at Chinakakani in Guntur district. Union Minister Ram Mohan Naidu, Minister of State Pemmasani, and Members of Parliament were present during the meeting, which is seen as a significant step towards strengthening Centre–State collaboration in the education sector.
