In a shocking daylight robbery that has rattled traders and residents alike, a gang of five armed and masked dacoits looted jewellery worth nearly ₹4.5 crore from Sky Gold and Diamonds near the Hunsur Bus Stand in Mysuru on Sunday afternoon.
The brazen crime took place between 1.30 pm and 2.00 pm when the gang arrived on motorcycles and stormed into the showroom, brandishing firearms to create panic. According to police sources, the attackers opened fire inside the store to intimidate staff and customers. The showroom manager, Azhar, was reportedly targeted but narrowly escaped unhurt.
Within a span of less than ten minutes, the dacoits broke open display counters and made away with around five kilograms of gold and diamond ornaments. As they fled the scene on motorcycles, they fired a shot in the air to deter locals from pursuing them, triggering fear and chaos in the busy commercial area.
Eyewitnesses said the robbers were speaking in Hindi and appeared well-coordinated, each holding weapons to prevent any resistance. In a crucial lead for investigators, one of the gang members reportedly dropped his helmet at the scene while escaping, which police believe could yield vital forensic clues.
A massive manhunt has been launched, with police teams scanning CCTV footage from nearby establishments and checkpoints across the city. The incident has once again raised serious concerns over daylight security at high-value jewellery establishments in Mysuru.
