A ganja smuggling racket operating from Nirmal district was busted following a dramatic incident on the outskirts of Nizamabad city. The accused were transporting ganja illegally in a car when excise officials attempted to intercept the vehicle during a routine check.
As the officers tried to stop the car, a woman constable, Soumya, bravely moved forward to block the vehicle. However, the smugglers attempted to flee and deliberately rammed the car into her. The impact left the constable with severe injuries, creating panic at the spot.
She was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors confirmed her condition to be critical. An emergency surgery was performed to save her life. Officials revealed that Soumya had joined the police force only 20 months ago and was known for her sincere service.
Following the incident, excise officials acted swiftly and managed to nab two accused — Mohammed Sofiyoddin and Syed Sayal. The seized vehicle and ganja have been taken into custody, and further investigation is underway to trace the larger network behind the smuggling operation.
Senior police officials condemned the attack and assured strict action against those involved. The incident has once again highlighted the risks faced by frontline officers while combating drug trafficking in the region.
