Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Education, IT and Electronics Minister Nara Lokesh has called for a fast-track, outcome-driven roadmap to create large-scale employment for youth as major industrial investments begin operations across the state. At a review meeting with APSSDC officials at his Undavalli residence, Lokesh said the government’s clear target is to generate at least 2 lakh jobs this year from industries that have already gone on the ground, and directed officials to align every department’s action plan with this goal.
Lokesh asked officials to focus on immediate job creation in operational industries such as Reliance CBG, Jupiter, Laurus Pharma, Hetero Drugs and upcoming renewable energy projects. He stressed the need to identify industry-specific skill requirements and roll out focused skilling and reskilling programmes for youth. He said training curricula should be designed in consultation with leading companies from each sector to ensure employability. Lokesh also suggested studying the training centres set up by major corporates and replicating similar models by creating training hubs linked to ITIs to strengthen hands-on skill development.
Highlighting the impact of job fairs being conducted once every three months at constituency headquarters, the minister said thousands of youth are getting placements through these initiatives and asked officials to work strictly in line with defined Key Performance Indicators to scale up outcomes. He reiterated that job creation must remain the core objective as industrialisation accelerates in Andhra Pradesh.
Reviewing the upcoming AI-powered “Nipunatha” skills and jobs portal, Lokesh directed officials to launch the platform at the earliest. Officials informed him that modules are ready, data integration across 25 sectors has been completed, and over 1,14,899 job openings are currently mapped on the platform, including about 3,100 overseas opportunities. They said 16 reputed national and international recruiters have onboarded the platform, and more than 20,000 students and 60,000 job seekers have already taken part in AI-based mock interviews on a pilot basis with encouraging results.
The minister also reviewed the plan to fill teaching positions in state universities and government degree colleges. He asked officials to include notifications for faculty recruitment in the job calendar proposed to be released around Ugadi, following a legally sound process similar to the DSC conducted last year. Lokesh further discussed incentives and policy guidelines to attract foreign higher education institutions to set up campuses in Andhra Pradesh, saying global academic partnerships will improve learning outcomes and career opportunities for students.
On coaching centre regulation, Lokesh directed officials to draft rules in line with Supreme Court guidelines to address student mental health and prevent distress-related incidents. He said the draft regulations should be placed in the public domain to invite feedback before finalisation, ensuring transparency and wider consultation. Senior officials from the education department, higher education commission and the skill development corporation attended the review and presented progress updates on employment generation, skilling initiatives and recruitment plans.
