Nara Lokesh inaugurated the High Level Canal Lift Irrigation Scheme at Pedavadlapudi village in Mangalagiri constituency, marking another development initiative aimed at strengthening irrigation facilities for farmers in the region.
The Education and IT Minister reached Pedavadlapudi on Monday, where he was warmly welcomed by local leaders of Telugu Desam Party, party workers, and residents. After arriving at the project site, Lokesh formally launched the lift irrigation scheme by cutting the ribbon and switching on the pumps to begin water distribution. He also unveiled the commemorative plaque installed at the project location.
The project has been completed at a cost of ₹14.88 crore and is designed to significantly improve irrigation access in the region. With a water discharge capacity of about 250 cusecs, the scheme is expected to supply irrigation water to nearly 25,344 acres of farmland across the constituencies of Mangalagiri, Tenali, and Ponnur. To lift and distribute water effectively, four pumps have been installed as part of the system.
According to officials, the lift irrigation scheme was completed following the election promise made by Nara Lokesh to strengthen irrigation infrastructure in the constituency. Funds were sanctioned and the project works were expedited to ensure that farmers in the surrounding regions receive reliable water supply for agriculture.
The project is expected to provide significant relief to farmers who depend on canal water for cultivation, especially during dry seasons. By improving water availability across thousands of acres, the scheme aims to boost agricultural productivity and support the livelihoods of farmers in the Mangalagiri region.
Several leaders and officials attended the inauguration event, including Andhra Pradesh Padmashali Welfare and Development Corporation Chairman Nandam Abaddayya, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams Board member Tammishetti Janaki Devi, Guntur Parliamentary Telugu Desam Party General Secretary Pothineni Srinivasa Rao, Mangalagiri Rural TDP President Pallabothula Srinivasa Rao, Town President Padavala Mahesh, District Collector A. Thameem Ansariya, and MTMC Commissioner Shaik Aleem Basha, along with other public representatives and local residents.
