Andhra Pradesh’s Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Department has emerged as a national frontrunner, recording major achievements in governance, rural development, transparency, and women-friendly administration under the leadership of Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan.
Officials highlighted that the state climbed from 24th position to No.1 in the Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan (RGSA) rankings within two years, marking a significant turnaround in village governance. The department has also secured top national recognition in Good Governance and Women-Friendly Panchayat categories.
A key milestone came on August 23, 2024, when village assemblies were held simultaneously in 13,326 villages across the state, earning a world record recognition. These meetings reportedly helped shape employment guarantee works worth ₹4,500 crore through public participation.
The government has also focused on strengthening administrative systems by promoting over 10,000 employees in the Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Department, bringing renewed momentum to grassroots governance.
Rural infrastructure has seen rapid growth, with thousands of kilometers of CC and BT roads laid across villages. Special road connectivity projects have also improved access to tribal and remote habitations, making transportation easier for residents.
In sanitation and waste management, innovative initiatives such as Magic Drains and Swachh Rath vehicles have improved village cleanliness while promoting sustainable waste collection systems.
The department has further supported rural livelihoods through cattle sheds, water troughs, and farm ponds under employment guarantee programs, helping farmers improve productivity and income.
Digital governance reforms have also enhanced transparency. The Swarna Panchayat portal and face-recognition attendance systems have been introduced to reduce irregularities and modernize administration.
Several Andhra Pradesh villages and mandals have won prestigious national awards in governance, poverty reduction, infrastructure, and sustainable development categories, reinforcing the state’s growing reputation.
With continued support from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, the state government says it remains committed to transforming villages into self-reliant and development-driven local governments.
