Miel de Botton shares a deeply personal tribute to her father with the release of Mon Cher Petit Papa, taken from her heartfelt new EP Loved Ones: Volume 1.
Switzerland-born and London-based singer-songwriter Miel de Botton has unveiled Mon Cher Petit Papa — a stunning new track honouring the memory of her late father, the influential financier and music lover Gilbert de Botton. Sung entirely in French, the song is an exquisite nod to the chanson traditions he adored — think Piaf, Aznavour — delivered with warmth, elegance, and that unmistakable Miel magic.
The track is lifted from Loved Ones: Volume 1, the first in a three-part collection that sees Miel pouring her heart into a luminous celebration of family, friendship, and legacy. The video, directed by Danny and Sam Clifford, brings the tribute to life with gorgeous visuals and real emotional weight — capturing what Miel calls “one of the most moving creative experiences of my life.”
But Loved Ones is far from one-note. Across the EP, Miel showcases her fearless musical curiosity: gliding from classic chanson to disco joyrides, ambient spoken-word, lovestruck piano waltzes, and even Ibiza-inspired dancefloor anthems. It’s a kaleidoscope of genres, stitched together by Miel’s soaring voice and signature sense of soul.
The inspiration runs deep — and personal. Among the loved ones celebrated across the trilogy: her childhood nanny (a 95-year-old legend), her beauty therapist (a survivor of domestic abuse), and her brother Alain de Botton, who famously challenged Miel to write a song inspired by Genesis, with Latin chanting and Michael Jackson-style flair. Naturally, she did.
Fans were first reintroduced to this sonic universe via Hit Song, a joyous, glittery disco bop that’s already notched up millions of views. The track’s video doubles as a celebration of the people who inspired the Loved Ones project — a heart-on-sleeve moment that radiates pure joy.
Miel’s journey to music is just as inspiring. After a career in law and clinical psychology — and raising two children — she followed her heart into the world of songwriting and performing. Her debut album Magnetic arrived in 2015, followed by Surrender to the Feeling in 2019. Since then, she’s performed everywhere from Camp Bestival to Crazy Coqs, supported icons like Simply Red and Wet Wet Wet, and even heads to Paris’ Accor Arena this November to support Simply Red once more.
And when she’s not on stage? Miel continues to channel her energy into philanthropic work — supporting peace, community, the arts, and the environment. Her track I Was Given Nature was selected by the World Wildlife Fund for their global ‘Connect to Earth’ campaign — just one example of her music meeting her mission.
