Anudeep Says “Funky Will Entertain Everyone”

Director K.V. Anudeep, who won wide appreciation for redefining comedy with Jathi Ratnalu, is back with his new film Funky, which is set for a theatrical release on February 13, just ahead of Valentine’s Day. The film stars Vishwak Sen in the lead role, with Kayaadu Lohar as the female lead. Funky is presented by Srikara Studios and produced by Suryadevara Naga Vamsi and Sai Soujanya under the banners of Sitara Entertainments and Fortune Four Cinemas, with music composed by Bheems Ceciroleo. With its teaser, trailer, and songs receiving strong responses, the film has already created solid buzz among audiences and trade circles.
Speaking to the media, Anudeep said Funky is designed as a complete romantic comedy and family entertainer that can connect with audiences across age groups. He explained that the title Funky reflects today’s youthful sensibility and perfectly matches the personality of the hero in the film. Vishwak Sen plays the role of a film director, and Anudeep said he could not imagine anyone else fitting the character better. He added that Vishwak’s natural comic timing, which audiences loved in Ee Nagaraniki Emaindi, brings freshness and authenticity to the role in Funky.
Anudeep clarified that Funky is very different from Jathi Ratnalu in terms of treatment and storytelling. While both films carry humor, Funky blends romance, comedy, and strong family emotions. He said the film humorously reflects certain real-life situations from a director’s journey, but the emotions and conflicts are designed in a way that common audiences can easily relate to. According to him, the film balances fun moments with heartfelt scenes, making it suitable for family viewing as well as young audiences. He also stressed that comedy in his films is backed by logic and relatable situations, and not random jokes, as the characters and the world they live in feel close to real life.
Reacting to comparisons with Jathi Ratnalu and attempts by other filmmakers to recreate that style of humor, Anudeep said comedy works only when it feels natural and rooted in believable characters. He explained that even though Funky is set against a film industry backdrop, the situations and emotions are presented in a way that any viewer can connect with. He also revealed that he appears in a guest role in the film but has no plans to become a full-time actor, as his passion remains firmly rooted in direction. He said he has many stories to tell and wants to explore different genres in the future, not just comedy.
The director shared that several well-known names appear in special roles in Funky, including directors Harish Shankar and Kalyan Shankar, along with producers Dil Raju and Naga Vamsi. He said these cameos are woven naturally into the story and create humor through simple, organic conversations rather than forced moments. Anudeep also spoke about actor Naresh’s role in the film, calling it one of the strong emotional pillars of the story. He said he has admired Naresh since childhood and was happy to collaborate with him again after Jathi Ratnalu.
Talking about the technical side, Anudeep praised music director Bheems Ceciroleo for his supportive nature and said the songs and background score have added great value to Funky. He revealed that the film’s runtime is 2 hours and 5 minutes and that it has received a U/A certificate from the censor board, which also appreciated the film’s content. Addressing the mixed response to his previous film Prince, Anudeep said success and failure are part of the journey, and he admitted that Prince did not get enough script development time. For Funky, he said the team took adequate time to strengthen the script and fine-tune the emotions and humor.
Anudeep also shared that he first narrated the story of Funky to producer Naga Vamsi, who liked it instantly and came on board. He added that Trivikram watched the film during post-production and offered valuable suggestions, which helped improve the final cut. He also spoke about working closely with producer S. Radha Krishna, saying their discussions and inputs played an important role in shaping the film. Looking ahead, Anudeep revealed that he has commitments with three production houses and is currently developing a female-oriented story along with a script for Venkatesh, signaling that he plans to explore new spaces beyond comedy while continuing to entertain audiences.
With strong pre-release buzz, a popular lead pair, and a mix of romance, comedy, and emotion, Funky is aiming to deliver a wholesome theatrical experience this Valentine’s season, and Anudeep is confident the film will strike a chord with audiences across all sections.
