In San Francisco, Andhra Pradesh Minister for Education, IT and Electronics, Nara Lokesh, met AMD Senior Vice President (AI Division) Vamsi Boppana as part of his U.S. tour. During the meeting, Lokesh highlighted that Andhra Pradesh is rapidly emerging as an electronics manufacturing hub under the visionary leadership of Chandrababu Naidu.
Lokesh explained that the state has already introduced a dedicated Electronics & Semiconductor Policy to encourage global manufacturers. He urged AMD to establish an assembling, testing and packaging unit for its products in Andhra Pradesh’s key electronics manufacturing clusters such as Sri City and Kopparthi. He said AMD’s presence in the state would significantly strengthen the supply chain ecosystem and boost job creation.
AMD Senior Vice President Vamsi Boppana stated that India hosts AMD’s largest R&D operations outside the United States. He noted that the company’s campuses in Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Delhi focus heavily on silicon design, software development and AI innovation. He also said AMD works closely with global partners including TSMC and GlobalFoundries for advanced chip production and packaging technologies.
Boppana added that AMD plays a crucial role in AI-driven data center transformation, high-performance computing and next-generation gaming. He said the company is also partnering with Indian tech giants, startups and government departments to strengthen supercomputing capabilities and expand digital infrastructure such as cloud adoption.
Responding to Andhra Pradesh’s proposals, Boppana assured that AMD would discuss the possibilities with its senior executives before taking a decision. AMD recorded around $27 billion in annual revenue last year through its high-performance CPUs, GPUs, adaptive SoCs and data-center solutions.
