The City Civil Court in Hyderabad has issued an ad-interim injunction protecting Megastar Chiranjeevi’s personality and publicity rights, curbing unauthorized commercial use of his persona through memes, counterfeit merchandise, and AI-generated content.
Legal proceedings have begun against individuals accused of misusing or exploiting Chiranjeevi’s name. Several people reportedly targeted the Megastar personally, launching negative campaigns against him on social media platforms. Cases have already been filed against some of them.
As per the court order, using Chiranjeevi’s popular monikers such as Megastar, Chiru, or Annayya, or his image in any creative or promotional format without prior consent, constitutes a punishable offense.
While Daler Mehndi was the first Indian celebrity to win a personality rights case, Nagarjuna became the first Telugu actor to achieve such legal recognition. But Chiranjeevi is the first celebrity to win the case from Hyderabad court.
Other prominent figures, from Kollywood and Bollywood, have also successfully protected their publicity and personality rights.
