A fresh controversy has erupted on social media after objectionable comments allegedly targeting actor and Hindupur MLA Nandamuri Balakrishna triggered strong backlash from his fans in Andhra Pradesh. In response, NBK fans from Prakasam district lodged a formal complaint at the Ongole Taluk Police Station on Thursday, demanding strict legal action against a man identified as Sohail Ahmed for allegedly posting inappropriate and defamatory remarks about the senior actor-politician on Instagram.
According to the complaint, Sohail Ahmed allegedly made insulting comments and baseless allegations against Nandamuri Balakrishna through his Instagram account. Fans specifically objected to remarks that allegedly suggested Balakrishna attends the Assembly under the influence of alcohol. They said such comments were not only offensive to Balakrishna personally, but also disrespectful to the dignity of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly. The complainants argued that the nature of the comments crossed the line from criticism into humiliation and character defamation.
The fans stated that Balakrishna is not just a popular film actor but also a public representative serving as the MLA from Hindupur. They further pointed out that he is a Padma Bhushan awardee and serves as Chairman of the Basavatarakam Indo American Cancer Hospital, making the allegations even more serious in their view. They said irresponsible and unverified claims made on social media can damage a person’s public image, mislead audiences, and hurt the sentiments of lakhs of admirers who follow him across cinema and politics.
A written complaint was submitted to Ongole Taluk Police Station Circle Inspector Vijay Krishna, in which the fans requested immediate legal action against Sohail Ahmed. They also urged the police to examine his Instagram profile and any other social media accounts being operated in his name, and to take appropriate steps to prevent further circulation of what they described as defamatory and disrespectful content. The complainants stressed that social media freedom should not be misused to spread falsehoods, insult public figures, or provoke fan communities.
The complaint was reportedly filed on behalf of NBK fans from Prakasam district. Among those who took part were Prakasam district NBK Fans president Ravi Vasu and Ongole city NBK Fans president Katragadda Vamsi. Several other supporters and fan representatives were also present during the complaint submission, including Hanif Khan, Kommalapati Manoj, Bellam Ramakrishna, Yamala Balakrishna, and Bezawada Muralikrishna. The group said they chose a legal route to express their objection and called on authorities to act quickly.
The incident has once again highlighted the growing concern around abusive and defamatory content on social media platforms, especially when it involves film stars, politicians, and other public personalities. In recent years, several celebrities and public figures have faced trolling, edited clips, false narratives, and targeted online abuse, often leading to police complaints and legal notices. The latest complaint involving Nandamuri Balakrishna now adds to that wider debate about digital responsibility, online accountability, and the need for stricter action against defamatory content.
As the issue gains attention among fans and social media users, all eyes are now on the police response and whether formal legal proceedings will follow. The case has also sparked discussion among Balakrishna supporters, many of whom are demanding stronger monitoring of abusive content against celebrities and elected representatives online.
