Hey Balwanth Review: Comedy Works, Concept Divides Audience

Ai generated article, credit to orginal website, February 21, 2026

Hey Balwanth is a 2026 Telugu-language comedy-drama directed by Gopi Atchara. The film stars Suhas & Shivani Nagaram in the lead roles, with Naresh Vijaya Krishna, Sudarshan, Sravanthi Chokarapu, Vennela Kishore, Ajay Ghosh, Annapurnamma, Harsha Vardhan, Babu Mohan, Lavanya Reddy, Bank Suresh, Dorababu, Sathipandu & others in important supporting roles. The music is composed by Vivek Sagar, while the film is produced by B. Narendra Reddy under Trishul Visionary Studios banner.
Story:
Krishna (Suhas) is a middle-class young man. Since childhood, he has dreamed that his father, Ram Balwant (Naresh), runs some huge business empire and that one day he will take over and rule it. After completing his education, when Krishna expresses his wish to step into his father’s business, Balwant firmly refuses. Determined to prove his talent, Krishna joins an NGO run by Mithra alias Shivani as a business consultant. During this time, he falls in love with Mithra.
However, unexpectedly, Balwant suffers a heart attack and is hospitalised, forcing Krishna to immediately take charge of the business responsibilities. When Krishna finally goes to the office and discovers what kind of business his father is actually running, he is left stunned and mentally shaken. He develops a deep disgust toward it. What exactly is that business? How does it create problems in Krishna’s love life and family? What roles do politicians Durgarao (Ajay Ghosh) and PVP (Harshavardhan) play? The rest of the story unfolds around these questions.
What about on-screen performances?
Suhas is just about fine in the lead role as Krishna. Firstly, his long hair and overall look didn’t suit him well for this character and his expressions in a few comedy scenes are pretty ordinary. But that being said, he is good with the emotional parts towards the end.
Shivani Nagaram looks cute in the role of Mithra and delivers a neat performance within the scope of her character. Her chemistry with Suhas isn’t upto the mark.
VK Naresh is slowly turning out to be the biggest asset in all the films where he is playing a full-length comedy role. His comedy timing is on point and he is too funny in a couple of spoof scenes in the second half.
Sudarshan and his witty one-liners are another big plus point of the film. His comedy timing is impreccable and he just kills in all his scenes with Suhas as his best friend.
Vennela Kishore impresses with his trademark comedy, and the variations he shows from being a rapper to a yoga teacher/doctor are just too good.
Sravanthi Chokarapu is decent in a key role while Lavanya Reddy leaves a mark in her limited scenes.
Ajay Ghosh, Annapurnamma, Harsha Vardhan, Babu Mohan, Bank Suresh, Dorababu, Sathipandu & all others are neat in their respective supporting roles.
What about off-screen talents?
The story by Shanmukha Prashanth is entertaining with a unique plot point that works for the genre, but might not be accepted by all kinds of audiences. The whole plot revolves around the business point, and this element is utilised well to generate comedy.
The screenplay by Gopi Atchara works in parts, while it looks dull in a few places. The situational humour is brought in neatly with respect to covering up the business, and the interval twist increases the curiosity. However, the middle portions of the second half look dull and tedious. Though the father-son angle towards the end works with the emotional dialogues, this points look forced into the narrative and the justification he tries to give with respect to the business doesn’t look fully convincing.
Director Gopi Atchara does an average job with his presentation. His casting is not upto the mark, and his narration too is just about fine. The major reason being the situational comedy works well at regular intervals. Also, the reasons shown to justify the father’s business are not very convincing, and a few situations might look awkward for the family audience.
The dialogues are well-written. All the funny one-liners are superb, and the emotional lines between the father and son are touching.
The songs by Vivek Sagar are forgettable. None of his songs leaves a major impact, but his background score effectively elevates the comedy scenes.
The cinematography by Mahi Reddy Pandugula is fine. His lighting in a few scenes looks odd and feels a bit overdone as it didn’t match the mood of the scenes.
The edit by Viplav Nyshadam needed to be more sharper as there are a few dull scenes in both halves that could’ve been trimmed.
The artwork by A. Ram Kumaar and the costumes by Bharath Gandhi could’ve been a lot better.
The production values by Trishul Visionary Studios are adequate.
What’s Hot?
* VK Naresh’s Hilarious Performance
* Sudarshan & Vennela Kishore’s Comedy Portions
* Comedy Scenes Around The Business Angle
* Decent First Half & Superb Interval Twist
* Good Backgournd Score
* Father-Son Emotions At The End
What’s Not?
* The Central Idea May Not Appeal To All
* Forgettable Songs & Below-Par Choreography
* Overly Done Lighting In Many Scenes
* Dull Middle Portions In Second Half
* Poorly Written Love Track
* Justification At The End
* Weak Casting
Verdict: Overall, Hey Balwanth has many funny scenes and entertaining moments at regular intervals. If you don’t think too much about logic and watch it as a simple adult comedy film, it keeps you engaged. Most of the jokes work well, though the main concept and its treatment might not appeal to everyone. Had the casting been better and the justification at the end been more convincingly written, then this would’ve been a hit film.
