Global tech giant IBM has officially set up its presence in Visakhapatnam, marking a significant step in the city’s growing IT landscape. The new office has been established at the prominent Lansum Square building, in partnership with co-working space provider iSprout.
Announcing the development, Andhra Pradesh minister Nara Lokesh welcomed IBM to Vizag through a post on X, highlighting the state’s push to attract global investments. He also used the hashtag #ChooseSpeedChooseAP, reinforcing the government’s focus on fast-tracking industrial growth.
The arrival of IBM is being seen as a major boost for Visakhapatnam, especially after a period when IT expansion in the region remained limited. Industry observers believe that the entry of a global player like IBM could pave the way for more multinational companies to explore the city as a viable tech hub.
Typically, IBM operates through its global delivery centers, offering software solutions and consulting services to clients worldwide. The Vizag center is expected to create employment opportunities for hundreds of software professionals, providing a strong platform for local talent.
For many young professionals in North Andhra, this development could reduce the need to migrate to cities like Hyderabad or Bengaluru in search of IT jobs. Instead, they may now find opportunities closer to home while building global careers.
The move also reflects the renewed focus of the current state government on attracting investments in IT and electronics sectors. With active engagement from leadership and ongoing discussions with industry players, the impact of these efforts is gradually becoming visible on the ground.
