A major food safety violation has come to light in Hyderabad after officials busted an alleged adulterated ice cream manufacturing unit in Musheerabad. The surprise raid was conducted by sleuths of the Hyderabad Commissioner’s Task Force from the Khairtabad and Secunderabad Zones, along with GHMC Food Safety officials, at Blue Bells Ice Cream in Bapuji Nagar, Musheerabad. Authorities said the unit was allegedly operating in highly unhygienic conditions and supplying adulterated ice creams into the market, raising serious health concerns for consumers.
According to officials, the accused has been identified as Pattala Ashok, who was allegedly running the unit without a valid licence. During the raid, authorities found that the unit was not only functioning illegally but was also reportedly using expired ingredients and synthetic food colours while manufacturing ice creams. Investigators said the products were being sold under misleading quality claims, despite being prepared in conditions considered unsafe for public consumption.
Officials reportedly seized a large quantity of ice creams in multiple flavours from the premises. Along with the finished products, they also recovered expired flavouring agents, with labels indicating expiry dates ranging from November 2025 to February 2026, as well as synthetic colouring substances allegedly used in the manufacturing process. The total value of the seized material is estimated to be around ₹1.75 lakh, according to the case details shared by enforcement authorities. While the full lab analysis is still expected to determine the exact quality and composition of the products, the preliminary findings have already triggered concern over food adulteration and public health safety in the city.
The unit was allegedly manufacturing and distributing these products to local markets, exposing unsuspecting consumers to possible health risks. Food safety violations involving expired ingredients and unhygienic preparation methods are treated seriously because they can potentially cause food poisoning, contamination, and other health complications, especially among children, who are among the main consumers of ice cream. This latest case has once again put the spotlight on the growing issue of adulterated and unsafe food products being circulated in urban markets.
A case has been registered at Musheerabad Police Station under Crime No. 118/2026 and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), officials said. The accused and the seized material have been handed over for further investigation. Authorities are expected to examine the supply chain, identify where the products were being sold, and determine whether more people or outlets are linked to the operation.
This raid is part of a broader crackdown on food adulteration in Hyderabad, where multiple recent cases involving unsafe and substandard food products have been uncovered by task force teams and food safety officials. The latest bust serves as a strong warning to illegal food manufacturers and also as a reminder for consumers to remain cautious about the quality and source of the food items they purchase
