Legendary music composer Ilayaraja has been trolled and criticized in the recent times for his legal claims on the songs that are used in several films. A composer of that stature should not demand money for using his songs. Several producers had to pay money for Ilayaraja. The legendary music composer has received a rude shock from the Delhi High Court after a complaint has been filed by music label Saregama.
The Delhi High Court passed orders against Ilayaraja from exploiting sound recordings and musical works as the rights are with Saregama. The injunction would apply to music from as many as 134 films. There is a copyright battle going on between Ilarayaraja and Saregama over the Tamil song ‘En Iniya Pon Nilave’. The Delhi High Court’s verdict has come against the music composer and in the favour of the music label.
Saregama has entered into an agreement with the producers of several films and they hold the copyright of the music, sounds and other works of the films. Ilayaraja has uploaded some of the songs on digital streaming platforms including Amazon Music, iTunes and Jio Saavn. When Ilayaraja has been claiming rights against the producers, Saragama has won against Ilayaraja and this is a big shock for a legend who has been in the film industry for decades.
The top music composer has to realize the facts and he should not trouble the producers who are using his classics in several films. Indeed this would be a tribute for him as this generation would know about his exceptional work. Saregama’s legal battle against Ilayaraja has to be an eye-opener for the legendary music composer who has immense respect for his work and contribution to music from the past few decades.
