Producer Naga Vamsi, who has many projects lined up in Telugu cinema, is currently promoting his upcoming film Mass Jathara starring Ravi Teja. Directed by Bhanu Bhogavarapu, the film is set to release on October 31.
Earlier this year, Naga Vamsi produced Kingdom, featuring Vijay Deverakonda and directed by Jersey filmmaker Gautham Tinnanuri. Despite the big combination and high expectations, the film received a mixed response from both critics and audiences. Many box office portals described it as a box office failure.
Addressing these claims during promotions for Mass Jathara, Naga Vamsi said that Kingdom should not be labeled a failure. He stated that the film collected over $1 million from premieres in North America and closed around $1.8 million. In the Nizam region, the film earned close to Rs 11 crore.
He compared Kingdom’s earnings with Vijay Deverakonda’s previous films Kushi and Family Star, adding that Kingdom performed better than both. However, he acknowledged that the film did not meet the high expectations set by the combination of Deverakonda, Gautham and music composer Anirudh Ravichander.
Explaining the trade situation, Naga Vamsi said that if the film was sold for Rs 100, some territories recovered 70 percent, others 80 or 90 percent. After GST adjustments, most buyers managed to stay safe, while a few incurred minor losses. Based on trade standards, he described Kingdom as an “above-average” film.
On the professional front, Naga Vamsi has multiple releases lined up. Mass Jathara is set to release on October 31, followed by Vishwak Sen’s Funky in December, Allari Naresh’s Alcohol around New Year, and Anaganaga Oka Raju for Sankranthi on January 14.
