Sukumar, a prominent Telugu film director, is known for his distinctive storytelling. He has also supported young filmmakers, encouraging his assistant directors to take on independent projects. Directors such as Buchi Babu Sana, Srikanth Odela, Surya Pratap and Karthik Dandu have all worked under him.
Sukumar set up a production banner, Sukumar Writings, to back new talent. The banner’s first film, Kumari 21F (2015), directed by Palnati Surya Pratap, was noted for its bold storyline. Sukumar Writings later produced Uppena, directed by Buchi Babu Sana, and Virupaksha, directed by Karthik Dandu.
A new development from the banner is a spiritual sequel to Kumari 21F, reportedly titled Kumari 22F. The film will be directed by one of Sukumar’s associates. It will be produced jointly by Sukumar Writings and a new production house launched by Sukumar’s wife, Thabitha Sukumar.
Thabitha Sukumar recently presented Maruti Nagar Subramanyam and has now turned to full-time production with Thabitha Sukumar Films. Kumari 22F is the first project under this banner. Official announcement will be made soon.
