Andhra Pradesh IT and Industries Minister Nara Lokesh has welcomed the reduction of United States tariffs from 25 percent to 18 percent, calling it a major achievement for India under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said the move would significantly strengthen India’s export potential and give fresh momentum to the country’s manufacturing sector.
In a post shared on social media, Lokesh stated that the tariff reduction would have a direct and positive impact on Andhra Pradesh’s economy. He highlighted that key sectors such as marine seafood exports, MSMEs, agricultural exports, and emerging manufacturing hubs in the state are expected to benefit from improved market access and better global competitiveness. According to him, the decision comes as a timely boost for exporters and entrepreneurs who have been looking to expand their presence in the US market.
Lokesh also noted that the development would further deepen the strategic and economic partnership between India and the United States, reinforcing trust and cooperation between the two nations. He credited the successful outcome to effective negotiations and coordinated efforts by the leadership of both countries.
The minister expressed appreciation for the role played by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, led by Union Minister Piyush Goyal, along with the negotiating teams involved in finalising the agreement. He described the tariff cut as a breakthrough that reflects India’s growing strength in global trade talks and its focus on export-led growth.
The announcement has generated optimism among exporters and industry stakeholders, especially in Andhra Pradesh, who see the reduced tariffs as an opportunity to scale up production, attract investments, and create more employment in export-oriented sectors.
