On the fourth day of his Davos visit, Andhra Pradesh Education and IT Minister Nara Lokesh held a key meeting with University of Cambridge Vice-Chancellor Professor Deborah Prentice, aiming to strengthen academic collaboration and global exposure for students in the state. The interaction focused on expanding cooperation in education, research, and skill development between Andhra Pradesh and one of the world’s most prestigious universities.
During the discussion, Lokesh proposed the introduction of Cambridge-certified online courses for students of Classes 8 to 10 in government and aided schools across Andhra Pradesh. He stressed the importance of equipping students with knowledge on climate change, sustainability, and future-ready skills as part of capacity-building initiatives. He also urged Cambridge University to work closely with Andhra Pradesh universities on joint research, curriculum development, and faculty exchange programs.
Highlighting the need to nurture global talent from the state, Lokesh suggested creating dedicated scholarship opportunities and fast-track admission pathways for meritorious students from Andhra Pradesh, on the lines of the Southampton–Cambridge academic model. He further proposed collaboration in advanced fields such as artificial intelligence, data science, and engineering through joint research programs with institutions like Andhra University and IIT Tirupati.
The minister also requested Cambridge University’s support in designing faculty development programs aligned with global education standards. He emphasized the need for modern teaching methodologies and curriculum upgrades to prepare students for emerging technologies and global careers.
Responding to the proposal, Cambridge Vice-Chancellor Deborah Prentice said the university is already actively engaged in India through initiatives in climate education, digital skills, teaching methodologies, and language programs under its CIRF framework. She expressed openness to reviewing the proposals put forward by the Andhra Pradesh government and exploring areas of collaboration.
The meeting marked an important step toward strengthening international academic partnerships and positioning Andhra Pradesh as a hub for future-ready education and research-driven growth.
