Davos (Switzerland): As part of his Day 3 engagements at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Andhra Pradesh Minister for Education and IT Nara Lokesh held a high-level meeting with Meta Vice President and Global Policy Head Kelvin Martin to discuss potential collaborations in digital infrastructure and emerging technologies.
During the interaction, Minister Lokesh invited Meta to support the development of scalable data centre capacity in Visakhapatnam, aligned with the company’s global infrastructure requirements and Andhra Pradesh’s rapidly growing digital ecosystem. He highlighted the state’s strong connectivity, policy support, and growing talent base as key advantages for hosting large-scale data facilities.
Lokesh also proposed the establishment of a Centre of Excellence focused on immersive technologies, artificial intelligence, and next-generation digital products. He suggested that Meta partner with the Ratan Tata Innovation Hub to mentor startups and innovators working in areas such as virtual reality, augmented reality, and advanced digital platforms.
The Minister further sought Meta’s cooperation in expanding the use of WhatsApp-based digital governance solutions. He emphasized strengthening citizen services through structured use cases, including grievance redressal systems and official government communication, to improve transparency and public engagement.
Responding to the proposals, Meta Vice President Kelvin Martin said the company would review the suggestions in consultation with its senior leadership team. He expressed interest in exploring opportunities that align with Meta’s global technology roadmap and India’s digital growth story.
The meeting highlighted Andhra Pradesh’s efforts to attract global technology leaders and position Visakhapatnam as a future-ready hub for data infrastructure, digital innovation, and next-generation technologies.
