Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh Minister for Education and IT Nara Lokesh took part in the first review meeting on the development of the Vizag Economic Region (VER), held at the Rushikonda A-1 Grand Convention under the chairmanship of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. The session focused on the action plan for implementing 49 key projects across the nine districts that fall under the VER, aimed at accelerating industrial, infrastructure and technology-led growth.
Officials briefed the leaders on the measures underway to boost Visakhapatnam’s IT ecosystem. During the meeting, Lokesh said that IT and IT-enabled services must contribute at least 10% to the government’s vision of transforming Visakhapatnam into a trillion-dollar economy. He noted that strong momentum has already begun for establishing data centres with a combined capacity of 10 gigawatts in the region, signalling a major leap in digital infrastructure. The Chief Minister emphasised the need to prioritise GCCs and overall IT development to make Vizag a global innovation hub.
Ministers, senior officials, district collectors, and elected representatives from various districts attended the review session, reflecting the government’s focused approach to positioning Vizag as a high-growth economic powerhouse.
