As Cyclone Montha approaches the Kakinada coast, Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has urged all departments to be fully prepared to face any emergency situation. He stressed that saving lives is the top priority and instructed the district administration to take all necessary precautionary and rescue measures in advance.
According to weather alerts, the cyclone is expected to make landfall near Kakinada tomorrow, likely bringing strong winds and heavy rainfall across 12 mandals in the district. During a video conference with District In-charge Minister P. Narayana, Collector Shaan Mohan, SP Bindu Madhav, and other officials, Pawan Kalyan reviewed the situation and gave detailed directions for emergency preparedness.
He ordered that all officers and staff remain available round-the-clock in the affected areas and ensure that no loss of life occurs. People living in vulnerable coastal villages must be moved to safe rehabilitation centers immediately. Special attention should be given to pregnant women, new mothers, the elderly, and the sick, who must be shifted safely and provided with necessary medical care and nutrition.
Officials reported that 260 rehabilitation centers have already been identified and stocked with food, clean drinking water, milk, and medicines. The Deputy CM instructed that ambulances and emergency services remain on standby and that hospital bed capacity be increased to handle possible emergencies.
Control rooms have been set up at the mandal level with emergency contact numbers for public use. Pawan Kalyan also directed officials to deploy NDRF and SDRF teams in key locations and ensure that swimmers and rescue personnel are positioned near low-lying and flood-prone areas.
He advised that local authorities use public announcements and loudspeakers to inform villagers about the cyclone’s impact and safety measures to avoid panic. The power department has been told to prepare for possible electric pole damage and ensure quick restoration of electricity. In case of network failures, satellite phones should be used for communication.
Pawan Kalyan emphasized strong coordination among all departments — revenue, police, irrigation, fisheries, health, and marketing — to ensure smooth relief operations. Police have been asked to tighten security in evacuated areas to prevent thefts, while the irrigation department must monitor tanks, ponds, and embankments for possible breaches. Sandbags should be kept ready to plug any leaks or breaches.
Fishermen have been strictly advised not to venture into the sea, and officials have been told to safeguard fishing boats. The marketing department was asked to maintain uninterrupted supply of vegetables and essential commodities in the region.
To support immediate relief measures, the state government has released ₹19 crore, out of which ₹1 crore has been allotted to Kakinada district for emergency assistance, rehabilitation facilities, and essential supplies.
Pawan Kalyan concluded that the entire administration must stay vigilant until the cyclone passes, ensuring every citizen’s safety and providing prompt help wherever needed.
