Amaravati: In a major relief ahead of Ramzan, the Andhra Pradesh government has released ₹45 crore towards honorarium payments for Imams and Muezzins across the state. Acting on the directions of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, the coalition government cleared six months of pending dues in one go, bringing relief to thousands of beneficiaries.
The decision comes shortly after the Chief Minister assured support during an Iftar gathering, and within hours, orders were issued to release the funds. The move is being seen as a quick response to the concerns of the minority community.
According to official details, around 10,000 Imams and Muezzins across the state have received the payments directly into their bank accounts. Out of the total amount, ₹30 crore has been disbursed to nearly 5,000 Imams, covering six months of pending honorarium. Similarly, ₹15 crore has been credited to about 5,000 Muezzins for the same period.
The government stated that clearing the backlog during the festive season reflects its commitment to welfare and timely support. The direct benefit transfer has ensured transparency and immediate access to funds for the beneficiaries.
This move has been welcomed by many, as it not only fulfills a long-pending demand but also provides financial support during an important religious period. The initiative is part of the government’s broader approach to extend welfare benefits to all sections of society while ensuring prompt implementation of assurances.
