A 26-year-old aspiring television actress, C.M. Nandini, was found dead in her paying guest accommodation in Bengaluru, sending shockwaves through the local television industry and her circle of friends. The incident came to light in the early hours of Monday at Insta Living PG in the Kengeri area.
According to police officials, Nandini was last seen returning to her PG around 11:23 pm on December 28 after visiting a friend. When repeated phone calls went unanswered later that night, the friend alerted the PG management. After receiving no response from inside the room, the door was forced open, and Nandini was found hanging from a window frame using a veil cloth.
The police were informed through the emergency helpline, and a team from Kengeri Police Station rushed to the spot. She was declared dead on arrival. A case has been registered under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, and further investigation is underway.
Preliminary findings suggest that Nandini had been under emotional stress. Investigators recovered a diary note in which she reportedly expressed her unhappiness over accepting a government job on compassionate grounds after her father’s death in 2021. She is said to have written about her strong desire to pursue an acting career and feeling a lack of support from her family regarding her ambitions.
Nandini, daughter of Basavarajeshwari, a school teacher from Kotturu in Vijayanagara district, had been living in Bengaluru since 2019. She had initially enrolled in engineering but later dropped out to take professional acting lessons and managed to secure roles in Kannada television serials.
Her mother, who rushed to the city after being informed by the police, stated in her complaint that she does not suspect any foul play and believes her daughter took the extreme step due to personal and emotional reasons.
The tragic incident has once again highlighted the mental health challenges faced by young artists pursuing careers in the entertainment industry. Police have appealed to the public to seek timely help and support for individuals dealing with emotional distress.
