Rumours of a rift between choreographers Johnny Master and Shekhar Master have been put to rest after Johnny Master addressed the issue during a press conference organized by the Telugu Film TV Dancers and Dance Directors Association (TFTDDA). The meeting, which was held to clarify recent developments within the association, also saw Johnny Master announcing a personal contribution of ₹18 lakh towards health insurance for dancers.
The controversy began after videos from a TFTDDA meeting went viral on social media, with several posts claiming that Johnny Master and Shekhar Master had an altercation. Responding to the speculation, Johnny Master dismissed the reports and said there was never any fight between them.
He explained that the meeting was held only to discuss whether secret ballot elections should be conducted and several internal association matters. According to him, short video clips were taken out of context and circulated with misleading claims.
Johnny Master said Shekhar Master, Bhanu Master, and everyone in the association share a good relationship and always stand by one another. He also revealed that Megastar Chiranjeevi personally spoke to both of them after seeing the viral videos. Johnny said he, Shekhar Master, and Chiranjeevi later met on a film set, had a pleasant conversation, and even shared lunch together, making it clear that there were no differences between them.
Expressing gratitude to Chiranjeevi, Johnny Master said the actor has always encouraged dancers and choreographers. He added that generations of dance masters have been inspired by Chiranjeevi’s performances, describing dance and Chiranjeevi as inseparable.
Johnny Master also made a significant announcement regarding the welfare of dancers. He revealed that Ram Charan had generously contributed ₹40 lakh towards health insurance for dancers, while the total amount required was ₹58 lakh. After approaching several dance masters for the remaining ₹18 lakh without success, Johnny decided to donate the entire balance himself. He said the payment he recently received for working on the film Peddi would be donated in full, without retaining even a single rupee for personal use.
TFTDDA President Sumalatha also addressed the media and clarified the ongoing controversy surrounding the association. She said the organization has been functioning according to the majority opinion expressed during the General Body Meeting and not through unilateral decisions.
According to Sumalatha, the present leadership questioned the alleged misuse of association funds during the previous committee’s tenure, which led to opposition from certain members. She said the controversy intensified after former office bearers resigned following disciplinary action.
She further stated that more than 136 out of 188 members who attended the General Body Meeting voted in favour of conducting by-elections to fill vacant posts created by resignations. However, the Federation has insisted on dissolving the entire committee and conducting fresh elections instead.
Sumalatha questioned why the entire association should be dissolved because of the actions of only a few individuals. She maintained that every decision taken by the present committee reflects the majority opinion of members and complies with legal procedures as well as the Federation’s rules.
She also appealed to the media to avoid misleading thumbnails and reports, saying that inaccurate social media coverage had created unnecessary confusion among association members and the public.
With Johnny Master denying rumours of differences with Shekhar Master, announcing a generous contribution towards dancers’ welfare, and the association leadership explaining its stand on the election issue, TFTDDA hopes the recent controversy can now be put to rest.
