Taking a unique route from medicine to movies, Dr. Ravikiran Gadalay is all set to make his directorial debut with The Maze, a psychological thriller starring Sriram (Srikanth) in the lead role. An MD and pathologist by profession, Dr. Ravikiran has established himself in the medical field and is now pursuing his long-cherished dream of filmmaking.
Unlike many filmmakers, Dr. Ravikiran never worked as an assistant director. Instead, he taught himself the craft by watching films, analysing filmmaking techniques and experimenting with storytelling on his mobile phone. His short film The Wrong Swipe, shot entirely on a smartphone, became a valuable learning experience that helped him understand screenplay, cinematography, performances, scene construction and editing.
Speaking to the media on the occasion of his birthday, Dr. Ravikiran shared that filmmaking has been his passion since childhood. He said his knowledge of editing helped him visualize every scene before stepping onto the set, making the direction process smoother. He also revealed that legendary filmmaker Akira Kurosawa, acclaimed Tamil director Selvaraghavan and Animal director Sandeep Reddy Vanga have been major inspirations in his filmmaking journey.
Dr. Ravikiran expressed his happiness about making his feature film debut with The Maze and hoped audiences would encourage his new innings as a director.
Apart from Sriram (Srikanth), The Maze features Priyanka, Hrithika Srinivas and Kamal Kamaraju in prominent roles. Presented by Dr. Naimisha Reddy Kasireddy, the film is jointly produced by Dr. Uday K. Reddy Palvayi, Dr. KSR (Kareddy Sridhar Reddy), Dr. Bharat Reddy Gopu and Dr. Anirudh Reddy Soma under the banners of UR Creations and Shrousha Kamala Arts.
Currently under production, The Maze is described as an intense psychological thriller that blurs the line between reality and illusion, promising an unpredictable cinematic experience.
