After the super success of KGF franchise, the craze for Yash reached the skies. The actor decided to present a bigger film than KGF and his next film Toxic released after four years. Yash has decided to take a decent remuneration and hold a share in the profits of the film. KVN Productions invested big money and they decided to head for an own release in theatres. But KVN was keen to close the non-theatrical deals. Netflix and Amazon Prime were interested but the quote from the makers of Toxic left them in shock. They backed out from the negotiation as there is a big difference between the quote and the offer.
Zee Studios stepped in to acquire the digital rights of Toxic including all the languages before the release of the film. But for the quote offered, Yash rejected the deal and he asked KVN to hold the digital rights as they could fetch big money after the release if the film ends up as a super hit. Zee Studios did not offer a great price but the makers should have closed the deal and recovered a portion of their investment. With Toxic receiving a disastrous response, there would be no big OTT deal for the film. Zee Studios may release it on a pay-per-view model or they would offer a lesser price than the quote before release.
KVN Productions received big advances from the distributors but most of the money has to be refunded. The pre-release digital deal could have turned out to be a major recovery for the film but Yash’s trust on the film made bigger damage. It is a big blunder committed by Yash. The film dropped big on the second day across the globe and Toxic is heading towards one of the biggest debacles in the history of Indian cinema. Yash is said to have taken Rs 100 crores as remuneration and he holds a handsome share in the profits. But the film will now struggle to recover the investment and Yash has to pay from his pockets to compensate for the losses of Toxic.
