With Romanchakam gearing up for a grand worldwide theatrical release on September 3, producer Pranay Reddy Vanga says the film is a wholesome entertainer that will appeal to both youngsters and family audiences. Presented by blockbuster director Sandeep Reddy Vanga and produced under the Bhadrakali Pictures banner, the film stars Sumanth Prabhas and Ananthika Sanilkumar in the lead roles and marks the directorial debut of Venugopal Reddy.
Speaking about why they chose to produce Romanchakam, Pranay Reddy Vanga said they never approach filmmaking with a corporate mindset or follow a fixed formula. “We had listened to a few stories in the past, but they didn’t really connect with us. This story had humour, thrilling moments and entertaining situations among friends. It matched our sensibilities, and we felt it had the potential to become a thoroughly enjoyable film,” he said.
He revealed that director Venugopal Reddy has been associated with their team for the last three to four years. Although Venugopal’s filmmaking style is completely different from Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s, his narration impressed them. “We asked him to shoot one scene before taking a final call. After watching the output, we were confident that he could handle the entire film,” he added.
Calling Romanchakam a character-driven entertainer, Pranay said the story revolves around Sumanth Prabhas’ character and follows the journey of a young engineering graduate, his love story, his group of friends and the unexpected situations that unfold in his life. “The film runs for 2 hours and 20 minutes, but it moves so fast that the audience will never feel the length. There isn’t a single boring moment,” he said.

He also praised composer Vasuki for delivering music that blends seamlessly with the narrative. “Music has always been one of the strengths of our films. Vasuki has done a wonderful job, and I’m sure audiences will enjoy both the songs and the background score,” he said.
Pranay clarified that after approving the project, Sandeep Reddy Vanga did not interfere with the filmmaking process as he has been completely occupied with Spirit. “After the film was completed, Sandeep watched the first cut and was very happy with the final output,” he revealed.
The producer also expressed confidence that Romanchakam will entertain audiences of all age groups. “The film has received a U/A certificate. Both youth and family audiences can watch it together without any concerns. I personally enjoy comedy films, and if I really like one, I watch it repeatedly,” he said.
According to him, one of the biggest strengths of Romanchakam is its natural humour. “The relationship between the four main characters has been portrayed beautifully. There is no forced comedy anywhere. The humour comes organically from the situations and characters, making the audience laugh effortlessly,” he explained.
Pranay also appreciated director Venugopal Reddy for completing the film within the planned budget. “Even when we offered to spend more, he said the allotted budget was enough. He is a very producer-friendly director who knows exactly what the film needs,” he said.
Sharing his thoughts on censorship, Pranay said, “In the US, censorship is handled by people from the film industry, whereas in India it comes under the government. Considering our traditions, customs and public sentiments, certain rules are in place. If filmmakers understand those rules, they can take the necessary precautions while making films. These guidelines are also updated from time to time.”
He also praised the performances of the lead pair and the supporting cast. “Both Sumanth Prabhas and Ananthika Sanilkumar have performed very well. The actors playing their friends and the supporting cast have also done an excellent job. Most of our technicians are newcomers, but everyone worked with tremendous passion. We shot the film in Hyderabad and Chennai, and although the story is primarily set in Hyderabad, the language used is simple, natural and easy for everyone to understand.”
Talking about future projects, Pranay said their immediate priority is Spirit. “Sandeep is always busy with his work. After Animal, he got a little time to relax. We have heard two more stories, but they are still in the discussion stage. Right now, our complete focus is on Spirit. Around 40 percent of the film has already been completed, and Prabhas has shot for nearly 40 days.”
He also confirmed that the team is planning something special for Arjun Reddy. “Next year marks ten years since the release of Arjun Reddy. We are planning to re-release the film with a few additional scenes. Our association with T-Series has been wonderful, and they have always shown immense trust in us. Going forward, if we come across strong scripts, we will definitely continue producing small-budget films as well,” Pranay Reddy Vanga concluded.
