During his ongoing Australia tour, Andhra Pradesh Minister for Education, IT, and Electronics, Nara Lokesh, visited Western Sydney University (WSU) in Sydney and held a productive meeting with the university’s senior executives and AgriTech researchers. Lokesh was warmly received by WSU officials and discussed several collaborative opportunities to modernize agriculture in Andhra Pradesh through advanced technologies.
Minister Lokesh urged WSU to share its expertise in climate-resilient crops and precision farming with Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University to accelerate agricultural modernization in the state. He emphasized the need for joint training programs for farmers and agri-professionals on smart farming techniques and AgriTech innovations. Lokesh invited the university to collaborate with Andhra Pradesh’s institutions on sustainable water management and soil health projects.
He also proposed setting up innovation hubs that focus on AI-driven agricultural solutions and smart irrigation systems. These hubs, Lokesh noted, could play a crucial role in enhancing farm productivity, reducing resource wastage, and shaping policy recommendations for sustainable rural growth in Andhra Pradesh.
WSU executives briefed the Minister about the university’s strengths and global recognition. Established in 1989 in Greater Western Sydney, WSU has evolved into a leading educational institution known for its community engagement and innovation-oriented programs. It ranks No. 1 globally for impact on sustainable development (THE Impact Rankings 2023) and is among the world’s top 2% universities (QS World University Rankings 2023).
With over 49,000 students from 70 countries and a staff of more than 3,000, WSU stands as one of Australia’s most diverse universities. It is renowned for excellence in health, education, business, and engineering. The university has ongoing collaborations with premier Indian institutions like IITs for student exchange, joint research, and skill development initiatives.
Officials also highlighted the Hawksbury Institute for the Environment, a WSU research body focusing on soil health, water efficiency, and sustainable agricultural practices. The institute is advancing AI, IoT, and data analytics-driven farming techniques to boost crop yields and reduce unnecessary expenses. WSU’s AgriTech teams work closely with industries and governments to develop smart irrigation systems and automated agricultural devices, reinforcing global efforts toward sustainable food security.
Minister Lokesh’s meeting marks another strong step in Andhra Pradesh’s journey to become a global leader in AgriTech innovation and sustainable development through technology-driven partnerships.
