Brisbane, Australia: Andhra Pradesh Minister for Education, IT, and Electronics, Nara Lokesh, met with senior representatives of the world-renowned architecture firm Populous during his Australia tour. The meeting took place in Brisbane with Populous Senior Principal Architect Sean Gallagher and Head of Business Development, Bids & Communications – Asia Pacific Elizabeth D’Silva.
Populous is one of the most prestigious global firms known for designing some of the world’s most iconic sports stadiums and event spaces. With over 40 years of experience and more than 3,500 projects worth over $60 billion, Populous has left its mark on the global sports infrastructure landscape. The firm designed the Sardar Patel Stadium in Ahmedabad, London Olympic Stadium (UK), SoFi Stadium in California, Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, and Yankee Stadium in New York, among others. In India, Populous has been collaborating with L&T on major infrastructure projects to develop world-class sports facilities across the country.
During the meeting, Lokesh invited Populous to play a key role in realizing Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s vision of transforming Andhra Pradesh into a Sports Hub of India. He urged the firm to share innovative designs for building state-of-the-art sports stadiums, training centers, and entertainment arenas across the state.
Lokesh emphasized the need for sustainable, environment-friendly, and energy-efficient designs that meet global standards. He proposed collaboration in developing community-centric sports complexes and recreational zones that would promote grassroots sports and public health initiatives.
He further suggested that Populous partner with the Andhra Pradesh Government to create integrated event spaces capable of hosting cultural, sports, and entertainment events, boosting tourism and the local economy.
Lokesh expressed confidence that Populous’ global expertise combined with Andhra Pradesh’s growing infrastructure ecosystem would pave the way for a new era of sports development in the state.
