A tragic mishap at a nightclub in Goa has killed 23 people after a cylinder blast took place on Saturday midnight in Arpora of North Goa. The unfortunate incident happened at nightclub named Birch by Romeo Lane, which opened to its customers last year.
Out of the 23 casualties, there are three tourists and all others are club employees. The fire broke out after a cylinder exploded in the kitchen. The blast resulted in a huge blaze which spread all over the place in no time, making it difficult for escape. Three of the victims suffered serious burns and the rest of them died because of acute suffocation. The details of the deceased are yet to be identified.
Firefighters and police teams rushed quickly to carry out the rescue operations. Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant also reached the spot early in the morning to take stock of the situation. He ordered a high-level probe into the incident and stated that a strict action will be taken against the club management for not following safety norms.
All 23 bodies were recovered and sent to government medical college in Bambolim for postmortem. The incident occurred around 11:55 PM Saturday. The club’s management has expressed deep sorrow, and the government has promised a thorough review of safety regulations for nightlife venues across the state.
