Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu finally broke his silence in the Rajya Sabha on the ongoing aviation chaos, sending a tough message to all airlines amid thousands of flight cancellations across the country.
Speaking firmly, the Minister said the government would not tolerate any lapses during such a critical time for passengers. “We will set an example for every airline. Any non-compliance will invite action,” he declared, stressing that passenger safety and convenience remain top priorities.
Naidu confirmed that the mass cancellations were triggered primarily by IndiGo’s internal operational crisis, which worsened after the enforcement of stricter fatigue-prevention rules for pilots and cabin crew. These regulations, aimed at ensuring safer skies, reportedly disrupted duty schedules and exposed staffing gaps within the airline.
He reassured Parliament that the Centre is closely monitoring the situation, coordinating with the airline, and ensuring that disrupted passengers receive appropriate support, including refunds and rebooking options.
With thousands stranded across major airports and frustration rising, the Minister’s statement signals a tougher stance on airline accountability. The government is expected to issue further directives to prevent similar meltdowns and ensure smoother aviation operations going forward.
