Education and IT Minister Nara Lokesh on Friday participated in a series of development programmes at Rajahmundry Government Arts College, marking a significant step in strengthening higher education infrastructure in the region. During his visit, the minister formally inaugurated several newly constructed academic and research facilities on the college campus and interacted extensively with students and faculty.
Lokesh received a warm welcome on arrival and unveiled the college logo at the main gate before inaugurating the newly built School of Commerce and Management block. He also reviewed the High-Glow Lab on Wheels science project, interacted with students, and later launched the Innovation and Incubation Hub, where he examined student-developed innovations and signed the Wall of Fame. As part of the campus heritage initiatives, the minister inaugurated the Vandemataram Movement Memorial and the Vandemataram Park near the Science Block, highlighting the historic role played by the Rajahmundry Government College in the freedom movement.
The minister also inaugurated the newly built Centre for International Studies and Research, aimed at supporting foreign and international research students. At the C.V. Raman International Studies and Research Centre, he interacted with international students and reviewed ongoing research activities. Lokesh later visited the Araku Coffee Café on campus, engaged with students, congratulated sportspersons who have excelled at state and national levels, and toured the college library, where he reviewed rare books. On the occasion, he was presented with a copy of Some Meditations of Marcus Aurelius Antoninus.
The visit underscored the coalition government’s focus on upgrading the historic Rajahmundry Government Arts College with modern facilities. Under the leadership of Minister Nara Lokesh, multiple infrastructure projects have been completed with support from alumni, CSR initiatives, and government funding. These include a modern main gate elevation built at a cost of ₹32 lakh with support from the Rajahmundry Urban Development Authority, an independent Commerce Block constructed at ₹70 lakh with alumni and RUSA support, and the Centre for International Studies and Research established at a cost of ₹11 lakh with alumni and CPDC assistance. An Innovation and Incubation Hub was developed with ₹1.2 crore in CSR funding from Hansa Solutions.
In addition, AI-driven digital classrooms were set up with an investment of ₹55 lakh, the Research Advances in Materials (RAM) Science Centre was upgraded at a cost of ₹1 crore, the Buddha Bhavan block was expanded with ₹2.2 crore from internal college funds, a Technosphere Computer Lab was built at ₹1.2 crore, an amphitheatre at ₹27 lakh, and new internal gates and a central arch at ₹12 lakh.
The programme was attended by Rajahmundry Government College (Autonomous) Principal Dr. K. Ramachandra Rao, MLA Adireddy Srinivas, MLC Somu Veerraju, RUDA Chairman Boddu Venkata Ramana Choudary, Commissioner of Collegiate Education Narayana Bharat Gupta, Joint Collector Y. Megha Swaroop, RTIH Nodal Officer Suryaprakash, and other officials and dignitaries.
