Godari Gattupaina is a 2026 Telugu-language romantic comedy drama written and directed by Subash Chandra. The film has Sumanth Prabhas & Nidhi Pradeep, playing the lead roles, while Jagapathi Babu, Laila, Reenu SK, Rajeev Kanakala, Sree Lasya, Sudharshan, Rajkumar Kasireddy, Viva Raghav, Rohit Krishna Varma, Devi Prasad, Harshavardhan, Srivani Tripuraneni, & others are seen in important supporting roles. The music is composed by Naga Vamshi. The film is produced by Abhinav Rao under Red Puppet Productions & Asian Cinemas banners.
Story:
Shyam Babu (Jagapathi Babu) loves his daughter Maya (Nidhi Pradeep) deeply. He never shows anger toward her—only affection. Even though he works as a security guard, he raises his daughter like a queen. On the other side, Raju (Sumanth Prabhas), is a good-hearted young man who works as an auto-driver after the 10th grade.
During one incident, Maya hits Raju. In another situation, Raju hits Maya. Through these clashes, love slowly develops between them. At the same time, Shyam Babu feels troubled, sensing that his daughter has been changing a lot. Maya, too, begins to feel guilty, wondering if she is misusing the freedom her father gave her. She decides to stay away from Raju because she believes she can never do something that would hurt her father or bring him shame.
So, how does Raju fight for his love? Will the father who fulfills all of his daughter’s wishes eventually accept the man she loves as well? What finally happens forms the rest of the story.
What about on-screen performances?
Sumanth Prabhas is excellent in the lead role of Raju. He fits the role neatly, and his body language as an auto driver is impressive. While he played a similar rural character in Telangana slang in his debut film – Mem Famous, this time he plays a very similar role in Godavari slang in this film, and passes with flying colors.
Nidhi Pradeep also does a lovely job as Maya. She has a decent screen presence with a girl-next-door kind of look. Her expressions are good, and her chemistry with Sumanth Prabhas is neat.
Out of the entire supporting cast, it is Sudharshan as the hero’s friend & Reenu SK as the hero’s cousin who leave a huge impact. Both their comedy scenes in both halves of the film are hilarious.
Jagapathi Babu does a pretty decent job as the heroine’s father, Shyam Babu. Although the character itself doesn’t feel particularly impactful, he leaves a good impact.
Laila is utterly wasted in a pointless role as the heroine’s mother. She hardly has a handful of scenes, and she is simply present without much significance.
Rajeev Kanakala leaves a huge mark as Shyam Babu’s colleague. His emotional performance in the climax is superb.
Sree Lasya, Rajkumar Kasireddy, Viva Raghav, Rohit Krishna Varma, Devi Prasad, Harshavardhan, Srivani Tripuraneni, & all others are fine in their limited supporting roles.
What about off-screen talents?
The story by Subash Chandra is very routine with a beaten-to-death kind of conflict and an ordinary plot. We have already seen countless stories where caste, religion, money, or parents become obstacles to love. So, if audiences expect something fresh or unique from this film, they are likely to be disappointed.
The screenplay is poorly written. A rural love story where the heroine’s father and religion are the main conflicts is nothing new to Telugu cinema. Also, the scenes that tell this plot are not so interesting. Not even a single scene gives the feeling of “Wow, this is something new”. More importantly, the movie lacks emotional connectivity throughout mainly coz of the way the heroine’s father character is written. His purpose is never conveyed properly, as his character never truly appears cruel or threatening enough.
The entire first half revolves around childish antics and the love track. In between, Sudarshan’s comedy provides some relief. Around the interval, the film seems to add a bit of emotional touch. However, in the second half, the narration once again feels like it loses track with dragged-out scenes. The last 20 minutes feel so boring that one might even feel like leaving the theatre before the movie ends.
It becomes difficult to clearly understand what the main conflict of the story actually is. At one point, it seems to be about the girl’s mood swings, then it shifts to religion, followed by social status issues, and finally suggests that the father is the real problem. Also, the way the conflict between the hero and the heroine’s father ends in the climax, with them making fun of each other, feels very silly and serves as a good example of outdated writing..
Director Subash Chandra does a pretty outdated job with his whole presentation. There is nothing out of the box with the way he presents and narrates the story. Looks like the maker is still stuck with the short film stories that used to come out a decade back. His narration unfolds in such a predictable manner with too many preachy scenes that watching the film eventually feels like a test of the audience’s patience.
The dialogues are not up to the mark. Except for a few funny one-liners here & there, most of the lines are weakly written, and they become a little too preachy towards the end.
The songs by Naga Vamshi are a mixed bag. “Chudu Chudu” song is the best pick of the album, while the rest of the songs fail to leave a mark. His background score is decent.
The cinematography by Saai Santosh is good, while the editing by Anil Pasala needed to be sharper. There are a lot of scenes which can be trimmed, especially towards the climax in the second half.
The artwork by Pravalya D and the costumes by Shiva Naidu are adequate.
The production values by Red Puppet Productions & Asian Cinemas are modest.
What’s Hot?
* Sumanth Prabhas’s Performance
* Sudharshan & Reenu’s Comedy Scenes
* Rajeev Kanakala & Jagapathi Babu’s Performances
* Nidhi Pradeep’s Performance
* Love Track & Chudu Chudu Song
What’s Not?
* Routine Story & Poorly Written Screenplay
* Completely Outdated Execution
* Weak Conflict Point
* Zero Emotional Connect
* Flat Comedy In First Half
* Dragged Out Climax Portions
* Couple Of Unwanted Scenes
* Jagapathi Babu & Laila’s Characterizations
Verdict: Overall, Godari Gattupaina is an outdated and highly predictable rural love drama with a routine love story and a beaten-to-death conflict. Except for having a few good comedy scenes of Sudharshan & Reenu along with a pleasant title, “Godari Gattupaina”- the story, writing, narration, and emotions inside the film do not live up to that charm.
