Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has unveiled an economic development strategy that goes beyond governance and infrastructure. His latest focus shifted to Lingala mandal in Pulivendula, the Assembly constituency represented by YSRCP president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.
During a high-level review meeting on the Visakhapatnam, Amaravati and Tirupati Economic Regions held at the Secretariat on Monday, the Chief Minister asked officials to study Lingala’s success in horticulture and use it as a development model for other parts of Andhra Pradesh.
Lingala Emerges as a Growth Model
Lingala has recorded remarkable growth through horticulture farming. According to the Chief Minister, the region has achieved a per capita income of around ₹7.30 lakh. He said the achievement deserves detailed study because the income level is higher than many industrially developed regions despite Lingala being part of a traditionally backward area. Naidu directed officials to identify the factors behind this success and explore how the same model can be replicated across Rayalaseema.
₹1 Lakh Crore Push for Rayalaseema
The Chief Minister identified horticulture as the primary growth engine for the Tirupati Economic Region. The government plans to mobilise investments worth ₹1 lakh crore to transform the region into a global horticulture hub. The proposal includes ₹40,000 crore under the Purvodaya initiative along with another ₹60,000 crore through private investments. The government also plans to encourage large-scale food processing industries in Pulivendula, Kadapa and nearby areas. The objective is to create employment, increase farmer incomes and strengthen the region’s economy.
Ambitious Target for Nine Districts
The Tirupati Economic Region covers nine districts. These include Tirupati, Nellore, Kadapa, Anantapur, Sri Sathya Sai, Kurnool, Nandyal, Chittoor and Annamayya. A three-member committee has been appointed to prepare a comprehensive development strategy for the region. As part of the Swarna Andhra 2047 vision, the state aims to become a 2.4 trillion dollar economy. Out of this target, the Tirupati Economic Region alone is expected to contribute 0.90 trillion dollars. The government wants the region to emerge as an economic powerhouse that can stand alongside Visakhapatnam and Amaravati while removing the long-standing perception of Rayalaseema as a backward region.
Public Consultation Before Final Approval
Naidu also announced that the master plans for the Amaravati and Tirupati Economic Regions will be prepared within six months. Unlike previous approaches, the draft plans will first be placed before the public and elected representatives for discussion before they are finalised. The government will also prepare District Economic Profiles for every district within the next two months. These reports will help identify local strengths and investment opportunities.
By choosing Lingala as a case study, the Andhra Pradesh government is signalling that successful development models can emerge from any region. The administration now hopes to use the horticulture success story to accelerate economic growth across Rayalaseema while creating a stronger foundation for long-term investment and employment.
