After months of uncertainty, Vijay’s Jana Nayagan has finally cleared the biggest hurdle before its theatrical release. The film has received its CBFC certificate, ending a six-month-long delay that kept fans, exhibitors and distributors waiting. The clearance has paved the way for the makers to announce the release date shortly. The film was issued ‘A’ certificate with the final runtime locked at 183 minutes.
Jana Nayagan was originally submitted for certification in December 2025 with plans for a January release. However, the film got caught in an extended certification process after it was referred to the CBFC’s Revising Committee following objections over certain portions. The producers even approached the Madras High Court after alleging an unusual delay in issuing the certificate. The matter later reached the Supreme Court before the team withdrew its petition and continued with the revised certification process. The film also suffered repeated postponements, affecting its theatrical business and release plans.
The delay also triggered several rumours over the past few months. Fake censor certificates went viral on social media, while multiple release dates surfaced without any official confirmation. The production house had to repeatedly clarify that the certification process was still underway. The film carries added importance as it is Vijay’s final outing before his full-time political career. After taking oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Vijay stayed away from promoting the film and shifted his complete focus to governance, leaving the production house to handle the release process. With the censor issue finally resolved, Jana Nayagan is expected to hit theatres later this month, with an official announcement likely soon.
The team will announce the official release date of Jana Nayagan and the film is expected to release on July 23rd in theatres. H Vinoth is the director and KVN Productions are the producers.
