Director Sudha Kongara suffered a setback in the Madras High Court after it refused to stop the release of Idhayam Murali. The filmmaker had sought an interim injunction against the film’s release, claiming that producer Dawn Pictures had failed to clear Rs 8.39 crore of her remuneration for Parasakthi. However, the court declined to grant interim relief, allowing Idhayam Murali to release as scheduled. The dispute began after Sudha Kongara alleged that Dawn Pictures had not paid her the full remuneration agreed for Parasakthi. According to the petition, her total remuneration was fixed at Rs 17.70 crore including GST out of which she has received only Rs 9.31 crore.
She argued that the producer should not be allowed to release another film until her contractual dues were settled. The legal battle has been making headlines for the past few weeks. Earlier, the Madras High Court had temporarily restrained the satellite rights transaction of Parasakthi while seeking a response from the production house. With the latest order, however, the court has made it clear that the payment dispute cannot be used to stall the theatrical release of Idhayam Murali at this stage. Parasakthi, starring Sivakarthikeyan and directed by Sudha Kongara, emerged as one of the notable Tamil releases this year despite facing several controversies before and after its release.
While the release of Idhayam Murali is no longer under threat, the dispute over Sudha Kongara’s pending remuneration is far from over and will continue to be heard in court.
