Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan is putting a significant focus on Pithapuram’s identity as a spiritual destination, with ₹30.66 crore being allocated for the development of temples, Bhajan Mandirs and pilgrim infrastructure across his Assembly constituency.
Of the total allocation, ₹17.06 crore has been earmarked for the renovation and development of 24 temples. Another ₹11.60 crore will go towards 48 Bhajan Mandirs, while ₹2 crore has been allocated for the construction of a TTD Kalyana Mandapam.
The works are aimed at improving facilities for the large number of devotees visiting Pithapuram while preserving the constituency’s religious and historical heritage.
Pithapuram occupies a prominent place on Andhra Pradesh’s spiritual map, particularly because of the Sri Kukkuteswara Swamy temple complex and its association with Sripada Srivallabha, regarded by devotees as the first incarnation of Lord Dattatreya.
Beyond Temple Renovation
The ₹30.66-crore package also offers an indication of the development model Pawan Kalyan appears to be pursuing in his constituency.
Rather than treating individual temples merely as places requiring renovation, the focus on 24 temples, 48 Bhajan Mandirs and a Kalyana Mandapam suggests an attempt to strengthen Pithapuram’s broader spiritual ecosystem.
This could have an economic dimension as well. Better religious infrastructure can increase pilgrim footfall and potentially benefit local transport operators, small traders, hotels, restaurants and other businesses dependent on visitors.
For Pawan Kalyan, who won from Pithapuram in 2024 and subsequently became Deputy Chief Minister, the constituency also carries considerable political significance. The latest allocation allows him to link constituency development with Pithapuram’s existing spiritual identity.
