Veteran Telugu actor and producer GV Narayana Rao has passed away at the age of 73. He had been dealing with health issues for some time and breathed his last on Wednesday. Actress Karate Kalyani announced his demise through social media. His death marks the end of a career that lasted nearly five decades. Narayana Rao made his acting debut with K. Balachander’s Anthuleni Katha in 1976. His performance in the film earned him the Nandi Award for Best Supporting Actor. He went on to play lead roles in films including Muthyala Pallaki, Oka Oori Katha, Chilakamma Cheppindi and Oorukichchina Maata.
He later moved towards supporting roles and acted in around 100 films during his career. He also shared a close friendship with Rajinikanth. Both actors were batchmates at the film institute in Chennai, where they trained before entering the industry. Narayana Rao had spoken about their friendship on several occasions and recalled their early days together. Narayana Rao had a strong association with Chiranjeevi as well. The two worked together in films such as Chattaniki Kallu Levu, Manchu Pallaki, Raja Vikramarka, Gang Leader and Hitler. He also turned producer and backed Chiranjeevi’s Devanthakudu and Yamudiki Mogudu. He later remade Yamudiki Mogudu in Tamil with Rajinikanth.
Apart from cinema, Narayana Rao also appeared in television serials and remained connected with the industry in different capacities. His career included a transition from lead roles to supporting characters and later production. Rest in peace GV Narayana Rao garu.
