The Telangana caste survey has offered a detailed demographic snapshot of the state, identifying the largest communities by population share across categories.
According to the figures, Madiga emerged as the single largest listed community in Telangana with a population of 36.58 lakh, accounting for 10.3% of the total population.
It was followed by Shaik Muslim at 27.96 lakh (7.9%), Mudiraj at 26.39 lakh (7.4%), and Lambadis/Banjara at 24.04 lakh (6.8%).
Among other major communities, Yadava stood at 20.19 lakh (5.7%), Reddy at 17.10 lakh (4.8%), Goud at 16.30 lakh (4.6%), Mala at 14.72 lakh (4.1%), and Munnurukapu at 13.75 lakh (3.9%).
The survey also recorded No Caste at 11.96 lakh (3.4%) and Padmasali at 11.82 lakh (3.3%), placing them among the top population groups in the state.
Further down the list were Rajaka with 9.96 lakh (2.8%), Kuruba/Kuruma with 7.96 lakh (2.2%), Odde/Vaddera with 6.44 lakh (1.8%), and Muslims (other than BC-E) with 6.33 lakh (1.8%).
The data also highlighted key OC communities, with Reddy leading that category, followed by Komati/Vaishya (5.09 lakh), Kamma (3.68 lakh), Brahmins (3.36 lakh) and Velama (1.44 lakh).
In the Scheduled Tribe category, Lambadis/Banjara dominated with 24.04 lakh, followed by Koya (4.28 lakh) and Gond (3.82 lakh). In the Scheduled Castes category, Madiga and Mala were the two largest groups.
The survey is expected to play a major role in future discussions on welfare targeting, reservations, political representation and social policy in Telangana.
