The makers of Anakapalli, starring Vikram Sahidev, have postponed the film’s scheduled theatrical release, which was originally planned for August 7, after receiving an overwhelmingly positive response from distributors and growing interest from OTT platforms.
According to the team, a special screening held for distributors received an excellent response. Impressed by the film, several distributors suggested that the makers consider expanding beyond the Telugu market by dubbing and releasing it in Tamil, Malayalam, and other languages.
At the same time, the film has also attracted interest from multiple OTT platforms. Instead of rushing into the previously announced release date, the makers have decided to evaluate these opportunities and prepare a stronger and wider release strategy.
However, before making that decision, the team says there is one opinion that matters the most—the audience’s verdict.
Since the film is titled Anakapalli, its story is rooted in the region, much of the film was shot there, and the producer also hails from Anakapalli, the makers have decided to hold four to five special public screenings exclusively for the people of Anakapalli before the theatrical release.
The team clarified that these will not be industry preview shows or celebrity screenings. Instead, they are meant exclusively for the general public, allowing local audiences to watch the film first and share their honest opinions.
The makers believe the first verdict on Anakapalli should come from the people of Anakapalli themselves.
Drawing inspiration from the way films are often showcased through public screenings and festivals internationally before wider releases, the team says it is attempting something rarely seen in Telugu cinema.
“First the People’s Verdict… Then the Release.”
The feedback from the Anakapalli audience, along with distributor recommendations and discussions regarding multilingual releases and OTT opportunities, will play a key role in finalising the film’s release plan.
The makers also confirmed that the film’s new theatrical release date will be announced officially within the next couple of days.
Expressing confidence in the film, the team said they would rather hear directly from audiences before asking audiences to embrace the film in theatres.
