The low success rate in Telugu cinema has been haunting the producers. With no proper releases, the exhibitors across the Telugu states have kept their theatres shut and are in a struggling phase. Things changed with June, July releases and the momentum continued in August. Tollywood had a fantastic August and the film industry is delighted and pinned big hopes on the rest of the year.
August opened with Varun Tej’s Korean Kanakaraju and the film offered a huge relief for the actor and the distributors. The horror comedy made decent money in its final run. Lokesh Kanagaraj turned actor with DC and the film surprised everyone with its performance. DC made more money in Telugu than in Tamil. Suriya tested his luck with Vishwanath and Sons. The film released during the Independence Day weekend and it emerged as a winner. The film is doing decent business on weekends and it is expected to have a long run.
Ravi Teja delivered his career’s biggest hit with Irumudi. The film surprised the trade circles and Tollywood with the opening numbers and collections. Irumudi is the biggest hit of the year and it will leave everyone in huge profits. Irumudi is running with packed houses even on weekdays. August also witnessed several disasters. Between huge expectations, Yash’s Toxic released on August 26th and the film was badly rejected by the audience. Considering the budgets and the box-office numbers, Toxic is a big loss for the makers. Other flops in August are Agadha, KJQ, Pallaburusu and Makutam.
On the whole, August has been fantastic for Telugu cinema.
