‘Chennai Love Story’ Crosses ₹50 Crore; Director Ravi Namburi Shares the Secret Behind Its Success

Chennai Love Story, starring Kiran Abbavaram and Sri Gouri Priya, has emerged as one of the biggest romantic hits of the year by entering the prestigious ₹50 crore club. The emotional love story has won the hearts of audiences and earned appreciation from critics and several members of the film industry, making it a memorable debut for director Ravi Namburi.

Speaking about the film’s success in a recent interview, Ravi Namburi said the audience’s love and emotional connection to the film mean far more to him than the box office numbers.

“The biggest success is not the collections but the appreciation from the audience. Seeing people connect emotionally with the story has given me immense satisfaction. I’m happy that my debut film has crossed ₹50 crore, and I honestly believed the film would achieve this kind of success,” he said.

Ravi revealed that the story was narrated to him by filmmaker Sai Rajesh, and he immediately agreed to direct it because of its emotional depth and unique narrative. He added that they jointly developed the screenplay, while he penned the dialogues.

He also credited his earlier experience in the dialogue department of Maruthi’s Prathi Roju Pandage and Pakka Commercial for helping him write impactful dialogues for Chennai Love Story, which have received an overwhelmingly positive response from audiences.

Talking about the casting, Ravi said he personally suggested Sri Gouri Priya for the female lead after feeling she was the perfect choice for the character. After discussions with Sai Rajesh, she was finalized, and according to him, she delivered a performance that strengthened the film’s emotional impact.

The director was equally appreciative of Kiran Abbavaram, describing his portrayal of Steven Shankar as one of the finest performances of the actor’s career. Ravi said Kiran trusted him completely throughout the shoot, never rushed the production, and gave him the freedom to take the time needed to achieve the desired output.

Ravi also praised composer Mani Sharma, calling him one of the film’s biggest strengths. He said the background score elevated the emotional moments, while lyricist Anantha Sriram and the entire technical team worked with a shared vision that helped the film connect strongly with audiences.

Recalling the most challenging portions of the shoot, Ravi revealed that filming the interval accident sequence on the streets of Puducherry and the climax dog sequence required extensive planning, additional time, and a bigger budget. He appreciated the producers for supporting the vision without making compromises.

He admitted that some viewers initially had mixed opinions about the second half on the opening day. However, as more audiences understood the film’s twist, the second half gradually received widespread appreciation and became one of the most discussed aspects of the movie.

Ravi further shared that actors and filmmakers, including Santosh Sobhan and Sailesh Kolanu, personally called to congratulate him after watching the film. He said the appreciation from the industry has encouraged him to tell even better stories in the future.

Expressing gratitude to producer SKN for introducing him as a director, Ravi confirmed that his next project will also be produced by SKN. He revealed that it will be based on his own original story and will be a family and youth entertainer packed with strong emotional moments.
