A major security scare unfolded during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner at the Washington Hilton after gunshots were reported near the ballroom entrance. President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were immediately escorted to a secure location by Secret Service personnel.
Vice President JD Vance, cabinet members and several senior officials were also moved to safety as security teams responded to the incident. Witnesses said panic spread inside the ballroom, with many guests taking cover under tables after hearing the shots. Around 2,600 people were attending the high-profile dinner event.
Officials said the shooting took place near the main security screening area of the venue. One suspect was taken into custody, while authorities later confirmed that Trump, Melania and other protected officials were safe.
The annual dinner, attended by journalists, politicians and celebrities, was disrupted by the incident, and an investigation is now underway.
