Veteran actor Nagarjuna Akkineni showered praise on the upcoming family entertainer Palla Burusu, calling it a film that made him laugh throughout while also leaving him emotional. Speaking at the film’s pre-release press meet, Nagarjuna said the movie offers much more than entertainment and carries a heartfelt message about family and caring for parents.
Presented jointly by Annapurna Studios and Epic Studios, Palla Burusu is directed by Uday Chowhan and stars Sudhakar Reddy, Muralidhar Goud, Prajwal Yadma, and Gomathi Reddy in lead roles. The film is set for a grand theatrical release on August 14. Following a positive response to its promotional content, the makers hosted a pre-release press meet attended by Nagarjuna as the chief guest.
Speaking at the event, Nagarjuna reflected on Annapurna Studios completing its 50th year, describing it as a milestone for the legendary banner founded by his father, Akkineni Nageswara Rao. He said the studio had produced several memorable and National Award-winning films over the decades and that the team has now decided to expand both production and distribution. Nagarjuna revealed that Annapurna Studios recently strengthened its distribution network, reviving the traditional distribution model while adapting it for the present generation.
He shared that the banner has become more active than ever, having recently released Lenin, followed by Palla Burusu, with Rambha Urvashi Menaka and two more films already lined up. He also confirmed that his milestone project King 100 is on the way, adding that Annapurna Studios plans to back many more films while encouraging fresh talent and original storytelling.
Talking about Palla Burusu, Nagarjuna said the story immediately connected with him because of its emotional core. He spoke about the importance of caring for parents, saying there is no greater blessing than being able to look after them just as they once cared for their children. He shared that he had the opportunity to care for his own parents and praised his wife Amala for the love and dedication with which she looks after her parents, calling her one of the luckiest people for having that opportunity.
He recalled that director Uday narrated the story in an entertaining way while delivering a powerful emotional message. Nagarjuna praised Sudhakar Reddy for his remarkable performance as Shambhu Tata and appreciated Muralidhar Goud and every actor in the film for delivering natural performances. He also applauded composer Pawan CH, saying he still listens to the music of Love Story and that the composer has once again delivered an outstanding soundtrack.
Nagarjuna revealed that he had already watched the film and described it as a complete emotional entertainer.
“I kept laughing throughout the film. At the same time, my eyes became moist and my heart felt heavy. That is the beauty of Palla Burusu. It gave me immense satisfaction that Annapurna Studios made this film. Everyone involved has worked with love, and I strongly believe it will become a success.”
He also announced that Annapurna Studios is open to producing films from new filmmakers if the stories impress the team. Nagarjuna recalled Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka once asking why no film had been made around Telangana’s culture and said Palla Burusu beautifully represents that backdrop. He also noted that August 14, the film’s release date, coincides with his mother’s birthday, expressing confidence that the blessings of his parents would be with the film.
Producer Vivek Krishnani said collaborating with Annapurna Studios was a privilege and described the project as a memorable journey. He praised director Uday’s vision, thanked Supriya Yarlagadda for her constant support, expressed gratitude to Nagarjuna, and invited audiences to watch the film in theatres on August 14.
Producer Supriya Yarlagadda said she immediately decided to produce the film after hearing the story because of its warmth and emotional appeal. She explained that Annapurna Studios has always focused on fresh stories and that partnering with Epic Studios for Palla Burusu was a rewarding experience. Supriya said her grandfather would have appreciated the decision to support such meaningful cinema and described the film as a beautiful blend of newcomers and senior actors with a touching social message.
Director Uday Chowhan expressed heartfelt gratitude to Annapurna Studios and Epic Studios, calling them production houses that gave him a new life. A longtime admirer of Nagarjuna, he said narrating a story to his childhood hero was a dream come true. Uday revealed that Supriya instantly agreed to produce the film after hearing the narration, while Naga Chaitanya appreciated its sweetness and writer Prasad praised the screenplay.
Explaining the concept behind the title, Uday said Palla Burusu means “toothbrush,” an everyday object that inspired a story rooted in ordinary family life. He wanted to transform a simple household item into a meaningful emotional journey filled with freshness and relatability. He thanked the cast, including Sudhakar Reddy, Muralidhar Goud, Gomathi and Prajwal, for bringing the characters to life, while also praising Pawan CH’s music. Calling it a perfect family entertainer, he urged audiences to watch the film together in theatres, promising that it would leave every family member smiling and emotional.
Muralidhar Goud said he grew up watching the films of Akkineni Nageswara Rao and N.T. Rama Rao and never imagined he would one day act in an Annapurna Studios production. He thanked the makers for the opportunity and said Palla Burusu would entertain audiences while also making them reflect on important family values.
Balagam fame Sudhakar Reddy recalled watching Shiva in theatres as a youngster and said standing on the same stage with Nagarjuna was an emotional milestone in his life. He revealed that Palla Burusu marks his 79th film and his third as a lead actor. He thanked the producers for believing in him and said the title may sound small, but the emotional impact of the film is much bigger. He expressed confidence that audiences would wholeheartedly embrace the film.
Actor Prajwal Yadma thanked Nagarjuna and Annapurna Studios for giving him the opportunity to be part of such a meaningful project. He said audiences would leave theatres happy after watching the film and expressed gratitude to the entire team.
Making her acting debut, Gomathi Reddy described Annapurna Studios as her second home. She called Palla Burusu a rare and beautiful story and requested audiences to support the film in theatres.
