Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh Minister for Education and IT, Nara Lokesh, on Wednesday laid the foundation stone for the Centre for Sports Excellence, a world-class sports academy envisioned by Indian badminton star PV Sindhu, at Thotagaruvu in the Arilova area of Visakhapatnam.
Minister Lokesh received a warm welcome from PV Sindhu, her family members, public representatives, TDP leaders, party workers, and local residents upon his arrival at the academy site. Along with PV Sindhu and Andhra Pradesh Sports Minister Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy, he performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the academy.
During the event, the dignitaries unveiled the foundation plaque and reviewed the proposed design of the academy. Minister Lokesh also interacted with the project team to understand the state-of-the-art facilities and infrastructure that will be made available for aspiring athletes. He watched an audio-visual presentation showcasing the vision and development plans for the Centre for Sports Excellence.
The academy is expected to provide world-class training facilities and help nurture talented athletes by creating a modern sports ecosystem in Andhra Pradesh.
The event was attended by TDP State President Palla Srinivasa Rao, Visakhapatnam East MLA Velagapudi Ramakrishna Babu, MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao, SAAP Chairman Animini Ravi Naidu, SAAP Managing Director S. Bharani, Greenko Energy Efficiency Technologies Pvt. Ltd. Director Chalamalasetty Swathi, along with several public representatives and officials.
