Veteran actor Pradeep Rawat passed away on Tuesday after a prolonged battle with blood cancer at the age of 74. The actor breathed his last at a hospital near Mumbai after his health deteriorated in the past few days. His manager confirmed that Rawat had been fighting the illness for several years before suffering a relapse a few months ago. Pradeep Rawat enjoyed a long career across Hindi, Telugu, Tamil and several other Indian film industries. He first gained recognition by playing Ashwatthama in B.R. Chopra’s iconic television series Mahabharat. He later became one of the most familiar faces for villain roles and character-driven performances.
Telugu audiences remember him best as Bikshu Yadav in Rajamouli’s Sye. The role remains one of the most memorable villains in Telugu cinema and earned him the Filmfare Award and the Nandi Award for Best Villain. He later appeared in several successful Telugu films including Chatrapathi, Bhadra, Lakshmi, Desamuduru, Stalin, Jagadam, Maska and Naayak. In Hindi cinema, Pradeep Rawat played memorable roles in Lagaan, Sarfarosh and Ghajini. His performance as the ruthless antagonist in Ghajini brought him nationwide recognition. He also reprised the role after appearing in the Tamil original, making him one of the few actors to play the same character in both versions.
Pradeep Rawat’s death has left the film industry in mourning. Several actors and filmmakers paid tribute to him, remembering his dedication and commanding screen presence. With a career spanning more than four decades, he delivered some of the finest performances in the assignments. Rest in peace Pradeep Rawat.
