Karthi takes on an exhilarating physical and psychological challenge in Sardar 2, stepping back into his multifaceted roles under the direction of PS Mithran. The action thriller explores new dimensions of the central spy character who sacrificed personal life and family for the nation. Describing the process of bringing both the father and son characters to life simultaneously, the actor shared the rigorous preparation and patience required behind the scenes.
“Playing the father and son characters traveling together was a truly demanding experience,” Karthi said. He noted that balancing the intense prosthetic makeup for the aged operative required significant endurance. “I genuinely enjoy action, but fighting like an elderly man brought its own unique challenges. An experienced operative relies on seasoned skill and varied techniques rather than raw power. Designing and executing those action scenes was thoroughly enjoyable,” he remarked.
The sequel also introduces a fierce confrontation with a dynamic antagonist, essayed by SJ Suryah. “SJ Suryah sir’s character is remarkably fresh and unpredictable. Audiences will thoroughly enjoy what he brings to the table, and he has personally dubbed for the role to preserve its intensity,” Karthi revealed. He further pointed out that female leads Ashika Ranganath and Malavika Mohanan represent strong, intelligent characters fighting for the country, moving well beyond traditional tropes.
Recalling how deeply the original film resonated with viewers down to young school children, Karthi highlighted that director Mithran has evolved even further in his craft. “There are many more layers left to uncover in this character’s journey. The concept and execution will surprise audiences,” he shared, promising that Sardar 2 will deliver a compelling blend of high-stakes drama, edge-of-the-seat action, and strong emotional depth. The movie is slated for 10th September release and it is produced by Prince Pictures on a massive scale with Telugu version being released by prestigious Annapurna Studios.
